Diamond Canyon School and Gavilan Peak School are on lockdown with doors locked and windows covered as Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office looks for two suspects involved in a burglary.
Students and staff at those schools have been instructed to stay away from windows and teaching has been halted.
Anthem School and Boulder Creek High School are on lockout, which means the doors have been locked and nobody is being allowed in or out, but classes are in progress. Anthem Preparatory Academy is also on a “modified lockdown;” No one is being allowed in or out, but classes are continuing.
MCSO has one suspect in custody, according to Officer Courtney Palma. Detectives are surveying the area with two K-9s and air support, Palma said. “It is unknown at this time if the suspects are armed. But, armed or not, we would lock down schools due to the close proximity of the search,” Palma said.
Parents are being advised not to attempt to pick up children from school. School officials will notify parents when the status has been lifted.
Anthem News will update this story as more information becomes available.
